The French artist from Algeria, Enrico Macias, is touring the USA and will be giving a concert in New York on December 4th at Town Hall.
“This renowned musician will perform his poetical music with rhythms and melodies inspired by his Algerian roots.
In his lyrics, he deals with themes such as happiness, family, love, peace, respect, solidarity and the love of his country.
This artist composer/performer left Algeria at the beginning of the 60s, then began his career in France and instantly became a world celebrity.
He made numerous tours in the US, Japan, Canada, Russia and Israel, becoming the most famous and the most appreciated Algerian in France and among the ‘pied-noir’ population.
He has always been a fervent supporter of peace and solidarity between people, collecting numerous prizes along his career, such as the “Singer of peace” title in 1980 awarded by UN Secretary-General, Kurt Waldheim, or the Legion of Honor in 1985 (officer in 2007).
He was also named “Roving Ambassador for Peace and the Defence of Children in 1997 by UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.” (source: French Culture)

Après l’Olympia en mars 2011, l’artiste Français d’origine Algérienne, Enrico Macias, fait une tournée aux USA et donnera un concert le 4 décembre à Town Hall à New York City.
Cet artiste renommé interprètera ses chansons poétiques dont les rythmes et mélodies sont inspirés par ses origines algériennes. Ses thèmes les plus chers: l’amour, la famille, le respect, la solidarité et l’amour pour son pays.
Gaston Ghenassia (son vrai nom) a quitté l’Algérie aux débuts des années 60 et démarra sa carrière en France et son succès fut rapide et international.
Il est devenu le plus célèbre Algérien en France et parmi la population pied noir.
Reconnu comme le chanteur de la paix, Enrico Macias reçoit la légion d’honneur et est aussi nommé en 1997 Ambassadeur itinérant pour promouvoir la paix et la défense de l’enfance par le secrétaire général de l’ONU Kofi Annan. (source French Culture).
